Blackgang Chine is the Isle of Wight’s oldest and most beloved visitor attraction, welcoming families from across the UK to its uniquely imaginative themed lands. With a large, diverse site and a high volume of daily visitors, dependable fire and security infrastructure is essential to maintaining safe operations and delivering a high‑quality guest experience.

For many years, Blackgang Chine relied on a large national mainland provider to manage its security systems. However, long wait times, slow response, and a lack of island‑based agility created ongoing operational challenges. A chance conversation changed everything.

The challenge

During one of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Awards events, Lifeline Managing Director Mark Lee met Blackgang Chine’s Managing Director Dominic Wray. Their discussion quickly turned to the challenges the park was experiencing with its mainland security supplier. It turned out the company were experiencing, Slow response times, sometimes several days for even basic enquiries and requests, Delayed rectifications impacting operational continuity, a growing need for more advanced, data‑driven security technology, and a lack of a service partnership aligned with the park’s daily operational demands

Dominic recognised that for Blackgang Chine to maintain its high standards and adapt to visitor expectations, it required a provider with faster, more proactive, and more innovative support. This opened the door for Lifeline.

Our Approach

Following initial discussions, Lifeline conducted a thorough assessment of the park’s existing systems and proposed a complete adoption and upgrade package—specifically tailored to suit Blackgang Chine’s operational model. Key elements of Lifeline’s solution included:

Firstly, a Seamless Adoption of All Existing Systems, Lifeline took over full management and maintenance of the Fire and Security Systems in place including, CCTV systems, Fire alarm systems, Intruder alarms and site‑wide life‑safety assets.

This transition was delivered with zero operational disruption.

Secondly A New Service Level Agreement Built Around the Park’s Needs. To support a busy attraction that operates seven days a week in season, Lifeline introduced a bespoke SLA offering with Massively reduced response times, Priority on‑site attendance, Direct access to island‑based engineers, Rapid fault resolution and remote system management.

Finally Lifeline delivered some new Intelligent CCTV Upgrades. Lifeline introduced new CCTV technologies designed not only for security, but for operational insight. Cameras equipped with footfall analytics, allowed the park to improve staffing levels at peak times, Visitor‑flow data to support staffing decisions, Improved visibility of key guest routes and themed areas, Enhanced monitoring for safety management.

This data has allowed the park to deploy staff more efficiently and improve both guest experience and operational planning.
